Chocolate Date Cake

Chocolate Date Cake Recipe a sugared nut and chip topping makes the cake company special. Ice sides, if desired, but top will "stand alone."

IngredientS:
1 1/2 cups 375 mL Boiling water
1 cup 250mL Chopped dates
1 tsp. 5 ml Baking soda
3/4 cup 175 ml Hard margarine, softened
1 cup 250 mL Granulated sugar
1 1 Large egg
1 tsp. 5mL Vanilla
2 cups 500 mL All-purpose flour
1 thsp. 15mL Cocoa, sifted
2 tsp. 10mL Baking powder
1/2 tsp. 2mL Salt
1/4 cup 60 mL Granulated sugar
1/4 CUp 60mL Chopped walnuts
1/2 cup 125 mL Semisweet chocolate chips
Chocolate Cheese Icing

Method:
Pour boiling water over dates and baking soda in medium bowl. Let stand.

Cream margarine and first amount of sugar in large bowl. Beat in egg and vanilla.

Stir flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt in separate bowl. Add flour mixture in 3 additions, alternately with date mixture in 2 additions, beginning and ending with flour mixture.

Turn into greased and floured 10 inch (25 cm) angel food tube pan.

Sprinkle with second amount of sugar, walnuts and chocolate chips. Bake ¡n 350°F (175°C) oven for about 45 minutes. Cool completely before removing cake.

Ice sides only. Cuts into 16 wedges 4
