Food for the Gods

The Food for the Gods Recipe you can reduce the amount of sugar, this one comes out on the sweet side but I sometimes make it with 2 tablespoons less of sugar (for each type) since the dates are sweet too.

Serve:

Ingredients:
1 cupButter
1 cupGranulated sugar
1 cupbrown sugar
3 eggs
1 1/4 cupflour; 1 cup for the 'batter' and the 1/4 cup to dredge the dates
1/2 teaspoonbaking soda
1/2 teaspoonbaking powder
1/4 teaspoonSalt
1 cupwalnuts; chopped
1 cupdates; chopped and dredged in flour

Method:
Preheat oven to 325. Grease 9x13 pan. Cream butter and sugars.

Beat in the eggs.

Mix the flour (1 cup only), baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Mix the wet and dry ingredients. (I don't use a mixer for this, so the bars come out fudgier) Fold in the dates and the walnuts.

Pour into greased pan.

Bake at 325 for 1 hour. Bars are done when a toothpick comes out clean when you check it in the middle.
