The Ring Doughnuts Recipe Doughnuts Recipe are surprisingly easy to make, and home-cooked ones taste delicious. Don’t waste the cut-out middles, just fry them separately for a bonus bite-sized treat.
Ingredients:
1 quantity doughnut dough
1 quart (1 liter) sunflower oil or vegetable oil, for
deep-frying, plus extra for greasing
sugar, for coating
Method:
1 Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface. Gently knock it back and divide into 12 balls.
2 Place the balls on baking sheets, spacing them well apart to allow room for spreading. Cover with plastic wrap and a paper towels, and leave in a warm place for about 1–2 hours until doubled in size.
3 Take a rolling pin and gently flatten the doughnuts to around 11⁄4in (3cm) in height. Oil the pastry cutter. Cut the centers out and set aside.
4 Pour the oil into a large saucepan to a depth of at least 4in (10cm) and heat it to 340–350°F (170–180°C). Keep the saucepan lid near and do not leave the hot oil unattended. Keep the temperature even, or the doughnuts will burn.
5 Slide the doughnuts off the baking sheets using a metal spatula. Don’t worry if they are flat on one side; they will puff up on cooking.
6 Add them, rounded-side down, into the hot oil and cook 3 at a time for about 1 minute, turning when the underside is golden brown.
7 When golden brown all over, remove from the oil with a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels. If you like, fry the cut-out centers in a similar way these are very popular with younger children! Turn off the heat when finished frying.
8 While still hot, toss them in sugar and leave to cool a little before eating. STORE These will keep in an airtight container for 1 day.
