Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose fl our
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1⁄2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons cold butter
2 cups whole wheat fl our
1⁄2 cup old-fashioned oats
11⁄2 cups buttermilk
Method:
1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a baking sheet.
2. Combine the all- purpose flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl; mix well. Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or two knives. Stir in the whole wheat flour and oats.
3. Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk all at once. Mix with a fork until well blended.
4. Turn the dough onto a floured board and knead for 1 minute. Shape into a ball and set on the baking sheet. Press into a 6- inch circle. Cut a cross in the top.
5. Bake for 40 minutes, or until well browned and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
