Prepare the cookie dough and preheat the oven according to the recipe directions. Oil 4 baking sheets.
Form the dough into 2-inch balls and arrange them on the prepared baking sheets about 4 inches apart. Press down gently on the balls to flatten them slightly.

If the recipe is for rolled cookies, make sure the dough is well chilled. Then roll out the chilled dough and cut it into circles, 3 inches in diameter. The cookies should be slightly thinner than you would normally make them.
