Cheesy Spoon Bread

The Filipino Cheesy Spoon Bread Recipe is pepper to taste. Serve with grated cheese on top of the recipe

6 to 8 Servings

Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1/4 cup grated Cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon minced green
onions
2 tablespoons butter
2 eggs, separated
1 tablespoon sugar

Method:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a medium oven-proof casserole. Set aside.

In a large saucepan combine flour and baking powder. Pour in milk and heat to medium, stirring constantly until thoroughly blended.

When the mixture boils, lower heat. Add cheese and green onions. Continue cooking for 3 more minutes. Remove saucepan from heat and stir in butter.

Add the egg . yolks one at a time, mbeating well after each addition. Set aside to cool.

With an electric mixer, beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Add sugar and continue beating until mixture forms stiff peaks.

Fold the cooled flour mixture into the stiffly beaten egg whites until just blended. Pour batter into greased casserole.

Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden brown on the edges.

Serve at onte with additional butter or margarine if desired.
