Meatballs a la Bistek

Ingredients:
Serves 4 to 6
1 cup fresh bread crumbs (about 2 bread slices)

2 teaspoons calamansi juice
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1/8 teaspoon ground pepper
3 tablespoons cooking oil, for sautéing
2 tablespoons minced garlic
1 medium white onion, sliced into rings
3 tablespoons cooking oil, for frying
1 cup beef broth or 1 beef bouillon cube, dissolved in
1 cup hot water
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
salt, to taste

Method:
In a bowl, mix thoroughly the first six ingredients. Form into oneinch balls. Set aside.

In a skillet, heat 3 tablespoons cooking oil, and sauté garlic until golden brown. Remove from skillet and set aside.

Sauté the onion rings in the same oil until slightly soft.

Remove from skillet and set aside. Heat the remaining cooking oil and frÿ the meatballs by batches, until brown and fully cooked.

Put all the cooked meatballs into a saucepan. Add the beef broth and oyster sauce.

Bring to a boil and let simmer for about five minutes. Season to taste with salt.

Arrange in a serving bowl and top with the browned garlic and softened onion rings.
