Maple Walnut Brownies

Maple Walnut Brownies Recipe from Lisa Williams. Holiday Dessert bake-off Christmas Special recipe. The recipe came from the King Arthur Flour Baking Sheet Newsletter, Spring 2008. It’s a nice treat made with whole grains.

Ingredients
2-1/2 cups white whole-wheat flour
1-1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1-1/2 sticks butter
1-1/2 cups brown sugar
2/3 cup Grade B maple syrup
4 eggs
1 tsp. natural maple flavor
1-1/2 cups chopped walnuts

Method
Preheat oven 350 degrees and lightly grease a 9” x 13” pan.

Whisk together the flour, salt and baking powder and set aside.

Melt butter and brown sugar together either on the stove or in the microwave. Remove from heat and add the maple syrup.

Allow the mixture to cool to lukewarm and transfer into a large mixing bowl. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing completely.

Add the maple flavoring. Stir in the dry ingredients and then the walnuts.

Pour into prepared pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes, just until the edges pull away from the pan.
